How to Remove Stains

Updated: Nov 22, 2023

To effectively remove stains from clothes, it's crucial to follow the appropriate pretreatment and washing methods. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Remove Excess Stain

If the stain is fresh, gently blot it with a paper towel or scrape off any excess material. For dried stains, use a soft brush or bristle toothbrush to loosen and remove as much of the stain as possible before proceeding.

Step 2: Pretreatment

Identify the type of stain to determine the most suitable pretreatment method:

  • Enzymatic Stains: Pour liquid detergent directly onto the stain and gently rub the fabric together or use a soft bristle toothbrush to work the detergent into the stain.

  • Oily Stains: Presoak the garment in a solution of warm water and detergent or pretreat with dish detergent, allowing it to sit for a short period before washing.

  • Body Soil, Clay, or Dirt Stains: Presoak the garment and wash with detergent to effectively remove these types of stains.

Step 3: Add Detergent and Wash Garments

Follow the instructions on the detergent label and the fabric-care label of the garment to determine the appropriate amount of detergent and washing instructions. Measure the correct amount of detergent based on the load size and level of dirtiness. Select the appropriate water temperature and wash cycle according to the fabric-care label.

By following these steps and using the appropriate pretreatment and washing methods, you can increase the chances of effectively removing stains from your clothes. Remember to always check the fabric-care label for any specific instructions or recommendations.
